Open Source Software (OSS)

The free software movement was launched in 1983. In 1998, a group of individuals advocated that the term free software be replaced by open source software (OSS) as an expression which is less ambiguous and more comfortable for the corporate world[5]. Software developers may want to publish their software with an open source license, so that anybody may also develop the same software or understand how it works. Open source software generally allows anyone to make a new version of the software, port it to new operating systems and processor architectures, share it with others or market it.

The Open Source Definition, notably, presents an open source philosophy, and further defines a boundary on the usage, modification and redistribution of open source software. Software licenses grant rights to users which would otherwise be prohibited by copyright. These include rights on usage, modification and redistribution. Several open source software licenses have qualified within the boundary of the Open Source Definition. The most prominent example is the popular GNU General Public License (GPL). While open source presents a way to broadly make the sources of a product publicly accessible, the open source licenses allow the authors to fine tune such access.

The "open source" label came out of a strategy session held in Palo Alto in reaction to Netscape's January 1998 announcement of a source code release for Navigator (as Mozilla). A group of individuals at the session included Todd Anderson, Larry Augustin, John Hall, Sam Ockman, Christine Peterson and Eric S. Raymond. They used the opportunity before the release of Navigator's source code to clarify a potential confusion caused by the ambiguity of the word "free" in English. The 'open source' movement is generally thought to have begun with this strategy session. Many people, nevertheless, claimed that the birth of the Internet, since 1969, started the open source movement, while others do not distinguish between open source and free software movements.

The Free Software Foundation (FSF), started in 1985, intended the word 'free' to mean "free as in free speech" and not "free as in free beer" with emphasis on the positive freedom to distribute rather than a negative freedom from cost. Since a great deal of free software already was (and still is) free of charge, such free software became associated with zero cost, which seemed anti-commercial.

The Open Source Initiative (OSI) was formed in February 1998 by Eric S. Raymond and Bruce Perens. With at least 20 years of evidence from case histories of closed development versus open development already provided by the Internet, the OSI presented the 'open source' case to commercial businesses, like Netscape. The OSI hoped that the usage of the label "open source," a term suggested by Peterson of the Foresight Institute at the strategy session, would eliminate ambiguity, particularly for individuals who perceive "free software" as anti-commercial. They sought to bring a higher profile to the practical benefits of freely available source code, and they wanted to bring major software businesses and other high-tech industries into open source. Perens attempted to register "open source" as a service mark for the OSI, but that attempt was impractical by trademark standards. Meanwhile, thanks to the presentation of Raymond's paper to the upper management at Netscape (Raymond only discovered when he read the Press Release

, and was called by Netscape CEO Jim Barksdale's PA later in the day), Netscape released its Navigator source code as open source, with favorable results. (WIKIPEDIA)

aku rase ramai yg tau ape itu open source bukan? kalo nak lebih lanjut korang bole pegi kt wiki, taip je open source. jgn malas nak baca. open source software ialah software yg legal di download, di ubahsuai codenya sesuka hati. dan yg paling penting, ia FREE!. byk alternatif lain yg ade dlm open source ini yg bagi aku efektif, tak besar, dan tak rugi pun kalo pakai. kalo taknak pakai IE, kita ade Firefox, Takde zip or rar software, kite leh guna Peazip, kalo takde Microsoft Office kite ade Open Office, Takde Windows kite ade Linux dan mcm2 lagi lah. so bg yg baru nak mencuba guna bermacam2 open source software, korang bole la try oke?

Pelakon Lucah Yg Bersuara Lunak

"Little Baby Nothing" was the sixth single taken from the debut full-length album — Generation Terrorists — by the Welsh group the Manic Street Preachers. It features vocals by former porn star Traci Lords.

The song is about the sexual exploitation of a woman, and Lords agreed to a duet with the band's singer/lead guitarist James Dean Bradfield. Bradfield said that "we needed somebody, a symbol, a person that could actually symbolize the lyrics and justify them to a certain degree. Traci was more than happy to do it. She saw the lyrics, and she had an immediate affinity with them. It was definitely easy to incorporate her personality into the lyrics. We just wanted a symbol for it, and I think she was a great symbol. She sounds like a female Joey Ramone to me." Lords said that "I listened to the tape and really identified with the character in the song...this young girl who's been exploited and abused by men all her life." In an interview some years later, she admitted to being distressed at the news of the disappearance and presumed suicide of Manics' guitarist/lyricist Richey Edwards. (WIKIPEDIA)

tak kenal Tracy Lord? maknanya anda bukan dari zaman sewa tape video di Kongtai. (aku pun dah lupe ejaan kedai video nih) dalam video clip nih Tracy Lord takde, tapi aku suke btol suara die. sgt2 manja. nampaknya aku pun teringin nak cari pornstar melayu utk nyanyi lagu. *blushing* :) oh lupe nak cakap, lagu nih adelah dari album manic yg terbaik bg aku iaitu Generation Terrorists.

"Little Baby Nothing (With Traci Lords)"

No one likes looking at you
Your lack of ego offends male mentality
They need your innocence
To steal vacant love and to destroy
Your beauty and virginity used like toys

My mind is dead, everybody love's me
Wants a slice of me
Hopelessly passive and compatible
Need to belong, oh the roads are scarey
So hold me in your arms
I wanna be your only possession

Used, used, used by men
Used, used, used by men

All they leave behind is money
Paper made out of broken twisted trees
Your pretty face offends
Because it's something real that I can't touch
Eyes, skin, bone, contour, language as a flower

No god reached me, faded films and loving books
Black and white TV
All the world does not exist for me
And if I'm starving, you can feed me lollipops
Your diet will crush me
My life just an old man's memory

Little baby nothing
Loveless slavery, lips kissing empty
Dress your life in loathing
Breaking your mind with Barbie Doll futility

Little baby nothing
Sexually free, made-up to breakup
Assassinated beauty
Moths broken up, quenched at last
The vermin allowed a thought to pass them by

You are pure, you are snow
We are the useless sluts that they mould
Rock 'n' roll is our epiphany
Culture, alienation, boredom and despair

You are pure, you are snow
We are the useless sluts that they mould
Rock 'n' roll is our epiphany
Culture, alienation, boredom and despair

Ipoh Shuttle - Alternatif Terhadap Pengangkutan di ipoh - KL

Incredible, but true. For just as low as RM2, a commuter can travel from Ipoh to Kuala Lumpur and return on the new Express Shuttle Train Service to be launched on Dec 1.

Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) is offering the low fare on a month-long promotion to mark the launching of its Ipoh-KL Sentral intercity rail service.

However, the RM1 one-way tickets are valid only for those travelling on the first daily scheduled train out of Ipoh and return on the last train. There are only 100 tickets available each day.

This rapid intercity rail link is being made possible due to the completion of the long delayed double-tracking and electrification project.

It offers a new option to commuters in Perak in need of a convenient way to travel to KL. The less than three-hour journey takes commuters right into the heart of Kuala Lumpur without having to worry about traffic jams.

"Initially, there will be 10 shuttle services a day," said Sabri Muhamud, KTMB’s operations and marketing executive.

"Five shuttle services from Ipoh and five from KL Sentral."

The daily departures to KL Sentral are set for 5am, 9am, 1pm, 5pm and 9pm, while departures from KL Sentral to Ipoh are at 5am, 9am, 1pm, 5pm and 9.45pm.

The four-coach trains will stop for one minute each at Batu Gajah, Kampar, Tapah Road, Sungkai, Slim River, Behrang, Tanjong Malim, Kuala Kubu Baru, Rawang, Sungai Buloh and Kepong Sentral for passengers to disembark or get on board before proceeding to Kuala Lumpur Railway Station and KL Sentral.

The fares from Ipoh to KL are RM18 for second class and RM10 for economy class. No discount is given to children or senior citizens.

The double-tracking and electrification project was undertaken in 2000, but was delayed due to contractual disputes. It is an extension of the track from Rawang to Ipoh.

Under the project, various smaller railway stations along the route were also rebuilt.

Ipoh Railway Station, which combines Moorish architecture with modern embellishments, has also been extensively renovated to include two overhead pedestrian bridges with escalators to link the new and longer platforms.
